MEMORIAL PROJECT
Tuesday, 20 March 2012 12:29

The All American Memorial Project hopes to raise the funds required to erect a memorial in honour of the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment and the 325th Glider Infantry Regiment at their former homes of Evington and Scraptoft in Leicestershire. From these locations the two units trained for operations before leaving the UK permanently for Operation Market Garden in Holland in September 1944. The other two full-time Regiments of the 82nd Airborne Division, the 505th and 508th PIRs, already have memorials at their former camps of Quorn and Wollaton Hall and it is hoped that this project will bring the 504th and 325th in line.

The project is aiming to have the memorials erected and ready to be unveiled in time for the 68th anniversary of Operation Market Garden this September, as this marks the final time the Regiments were based in the UK. Both Evington and Scraptoft have been extremely supportive of the project and locations for each memorial have already been chosen. More details of the project and how donations came be made can be found at www.allamericanmemorials.co.uk.
