The couple of pages towards the back of CMV listing forthcoming events are starting to burst at the seams as more and more notifications come in. Despite the economic woes, ‘keep calm and carry on’ seems to be the attitude as far as organisers are concerned, and good luck to them. It requires a lot of effort to put on an event and it isn’t without risk at the best of times. And these aren’t the best of times. I don’t know if our very favourable report on last year’s Ponderosa War Weekend in the December issue was the kiss of death but, for whatever reason, the event has indeed died… at least for 2012. However, I’m very pleased to say that Stuart Wright, organiser of that event, has teamed up with MV collector Ken Pugh to put on The Yorkshire Wartime Experience Show, 22-24 June. I’m sure it will get a lot of support despite being held over an incredibly packed MV weekend. There’s Wartime in the Vale, the MVT’s national show, in the Midlands, Muckleburgh’s annual show in East Anglia, and in Dorset you won’t be able to throw an apple cake without hitting a green machine. All over the same weekend and within the same few square miles you have Maiden Newton at War, the Weymouth Armed Forces Day Parade and Armour and Embarkation, all vying for the MV enthusiast’s attention. It looks like a busy weekend for yours truly; in fact it looks like a busy season. Bring it on!
