In late January, Guildford-based Automotive Technik announced the first Pinzgauer 6x6 armoured variant. The vehicle, a joint venture between the British manufacturer of the Pinzgauer range and specialist armoured-vehicle builder, MacNellie's of Walsall, fills an important gap in the company's current line-up. The vehicle is constructed on the basic rolling chassis of the standard 6x6 variant, and the MacNellie monocoque bodyshell provides Class B6 ballistic protection, including resistance to 7.62mm NATO ball rounds at 10m. The underside is protected by floor armour and will withstand two NATO L2A2 hand grenades detonating simultaneously just six inches (150mm) below the floor pan. A demonstrator is close to completion and a number of military customers are said to have expressed and interest.
